The FitMovement

I've worked in the health management field for a little over 5 years now. For the most part it's driven by insurance companies and/or large employers. Companies like the one I work for attempt to help people lead healthy lives. We do this mostly through education - on the web, over the phone, in person. We help people who are already healthy stay healthy - and we use data to seek out unhealthy people and try to help them become healthier. I think we do help people overall - however, in my opinion, the only way that we'll overcome our unhealthy habits in realtion to lack of physical activity and nutrition in the US is going to be from the bottom up.

There are running clubs all over the country. I believe ours is unique in several ways - most importantly our fearless leader (RM) makes sure that we have fun. I started this blog as a place for like minded groups in Baltimore to communicate. I want it to be a database of information on places and times where people get together to activate that primal urge to move. It's so much easier to get off the couch if you know somebody is waiting for you out there to show up.

There are limitations to using blogger for this purpose - and I'm looking into other options. But, I thought it would be a good place to start given that it links with our blog - which seems to be linked into all kinds of people. This blog is not for me to pontificate. It's for you to reach out and tell me about your regular group run, walk, yoga session etc . . . We'll post anything as long as it's free, related to groups getting together to get or stay fit, and located in Baltimore. This is a place for all of us to share information on opportunties to develop more of these groups and to get people from all over the city involved.
